Software Engineer

Lyft, San Francisco, CA • August 2017 - August 2020

I started working at Lyft pre-IPO during a period of hyper-growth when the company grew from ~1000 to 6000+ employees. I was on the Observability team before switching to the IDL Tools team, both teams are part of Lyft's infrastructure org.

• Authored a Go microservice that enabled other microservices to listen for changes to relevant IDL definitions stored in our IDL monorepo
• Refactored our IDL pipeline to improve testability and reliability, and enable new team members to start developing on the pipeline faster
• Mentored an intern and designed their Summer project. The intern got a return offer and came back to work at Lyft after they graduated
• Active participant in Lyft's recruiting initiatives — I conducted technical and mock interviews, gave presentations at HBCUs and other college campuses, panelist for webinars with partner orgs such as Rewriting the Code and Tech Exchange

Front End Engineering Intern

Neon Labs, San Francisco, CA • Summer 2016

Neon was a small (~15 employees) Series A startup that provided a visual content performance platform to help digital markets identify images that improve user click rates using a neuroscience-based machine learning system.

• Developed and updated features for Neon’s web application, and implemented mobile support using React, Sass, and npm
• Investigated and fixed bugs to improve product stability and user experience

🛠 skills

Knowledgeable about: Go, Python, gRPC & Protobuf

I worked with Go, gRPC, and Protobuf daily during my two years on the IDL Tools team at Lyft. Nearly all of my team's tooling was written in Go. Python is the most commonly used programming language at Lyft, so I was regularly reading and writing Python to support our internal customers.

Familiar with: React, Javascript, JQuery, SQL

I worked with React, Javascript, and JQuery during my internship at Neon Labs, but I haven't done much front end development since then. I've only used SQL in a classroom context.
